Pennsylvania Nurse Wins “Nurses at the Heart of Healthcare” Contest Sponsored by TigerConnect and Critical Alert

Jodie McClure, a staff nurse at Mount Nittany Health in
State College, was chosen for her dedication to providing quality patient care.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 21, 2022 — TigerConnect, maker of healthcare’s most powerful clinical collaboration platform, and Critical Alert, a TigerConnect Company, today announced that Jodie McClure, a staff nurse at Mount Nittany Health in State College, Pa. is the grand prize winner of the “Nurses at the Heart of Healthcare” Contest. Tiger Connect and Critical Alert created the contest to recognize nursing professionals who have shown a deep commitment to their patients.

This year’s winner was nominated by Jenn Bainey, a nurse manager at Mt. Nittany, who lauded McClure for her commitment to patient care. Earlier this year, a patient McClure was treating had a mental health emergency. According to Bainey, McClure went above and beyond the call of duty to not only treat the patient but to engage their family and connect them with local resources in the community that could help. “Between working with family members, the local police, and the county crisis line, Jodie was able to get the patient admitted to the hospital and [get them] the help they desperately needed,” said Bainey.

Nursing leaders from across the United States nominated nurses from all over the country who come from a wide range of specialties, including pediatrics, mental health, and oncology. A few common themes emerged among this year’s winners, including the ways in which they made a difference in the lives of their patients, being passionate about the future, and advocacy. These themes highlight the vital role that nurses play in healthcare, and they underscore the dedication and commitment that nurses have to their patients and their profession.

“Nurses are an integral part of healthcare. They provide much-needed medical care to individuals, as well as emotional support and comfort. Their work is invaluable, and they deserve to be recognized,” said Cheryl McKay, Ph.D. RN Nurse Executive at TigerConnect. “Nurses like Jodie exemplify the selflessness, kindness, and commitment to the profession that improves the patient experience and enriches the lives of those under their care.”

In addition to the grand prize winner, five nurses received honorable mentions: Mecia Castagna, a staff nurse at Pike County Memorial Hospital, Judy Perez, a staff nurse at Meadow Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Jennifer Cummings, a staff nurse at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Lai Ching (Esther) Chan, pediatric head nurse at Charles B. Wang Community Health Center, and Rebecca Swisher, a registered nurse case manager and clinical coordinator at John C. Fremont Healthcare District.

Congratulations to this year’s winners, and to all the nurses who work to provide quality patient care. Visit the blog post to learn more about Jodie McClure and all this year’s winners.
