The Value of Archiving as Part of Your Clinical Communication Strategy
As clinical communication and collaboration systems become an integral part of a healthcare team’s daily interaction, it’s natural for organizations to want to do more. Compliance and security are just a couple of the requirements that are first on the list. With the rise in smartphone use by hospital staff and the increase in shared patient information, healthcare organizations are implementing new record management policies that require them to archive their secure text messages for a host of reasons.

Archiving Considerations

- A focus on compliance archiving and eDiscovery (HIPAA, SOX, SEC)
In the case of litigation, legal requests often stipulate a fixed time to gather and present information. Ideally, your message archiving platform should be cloud-based, leveraging geographically dispersed data centers to power archival functions for data ingestion, indexing, search, eDiscovery, and export. A robust message archiving system will use MapReduce style and parallel processing to search very large data sets in sub-second response times. It may seem obvious, but security and privacy should be your top concern when choosing a message archiving platform. All data should be secured via industry-standard encryption (Defense Department AES and SSL), with no shared encryption keys across customers.
