Printing and Popups for Your Physician Call Schedule

Two of the most frequent questions we receive during call scheduler training regard browser settings for popups and for printing the schedules after they are completed. Both of these activities are easy to accomplish and the settings remain in effect until the browser on that computer is updated.

“But I already set my “preferences”, and I’m finding I need to reset them. Why?”

If you, or your I.T. department, recently updated your browser, if you are using a different browser, or go to a different computer; you will need to set your browser preferences in the browser you are using.

How to enable Popups for Call Scheduler and other applications

Pop-up blocking software is designed to block those annoying pop-up ads when you are using the Internet. Unfortunately, some pop-up blocking software will also treat new windows and tabs as pop-up ads, and prevent them from opening. Many legitimate software sites use popup windows for user convenience and navigation.

You can simply “allow” TigerConnect Physician Scheduling (formerly Call Scheduler) as a “safe site” in your browser settings, or you can temporarily disable pop-up blocking. Check the software listed in the table below and if you have any of these programs installed on your computer; follow the instructions in Solutions to disable the pop-up blocking feature.

Your browser may also have tool-bar ad-blocking settings or an extension installed which is stopping the software from opening pop-up windows. If you have one or more of these blockers, you may not be able to open links or videos that pop-up in new windows.

Dealing with common Printing questions regarding On-Call Schedules

It’s surprising how many people still need to print and post the on-call schedules, even though the printed copy is guaranteed to change! Usually, any printing is strictly for archiving purposes and viewers use the on-line call schedules to find the most up-to-date, accurate schedules available. Your MicroSite even allows view-only access without the need for a username,  password.

Two of the most common printing questions are regarding background colors and images, such as a grid on the on-call schedule calendar views, and simple formatting of printouts using common browser features. Since printing a particular calendar layout can easily be handled using browser features displayed under Print Preview, I will concentrate only on the “background printing” issue in this article.

Check the software listed in the table below and follow the instructions in Solutions to enable the background printing feature. If the background doesn’t print after changing the browser preference, restart the browser and the change should take effect.

To turn on printing background printing of a web page in most Windows browsers:

    2. Click the Advanced tab
    3. Scroll to the Printing section
    4. Check Print Background colors & images

  3. Check Print Backgrounds box
  4. Click Print
  1. Select from Menu > Print

Key Takeaway

Preference changes in your browser settings are easy to do. Having a handy “how-to” reference makes it even easier to keep a local paper call schedule archive, should you need one.
